10" Round Attributed to Capt. Andrew Sandsbury
The basket has a rich honey patina throughout, made with Oak staves and a swing handle that's notched and rounded at the ends and attached with brass ears. The Mahogany bottom has four concentric rings which are typical features of an Andrew Sandsbury made lightship basket. Andrew Jackson Sandsbury (1830-1902)put in 20 years on board the South Shoal Lightship (1872-1892), the last 12 as captain. His baskets are considered some of the finest made lightship baskets of the 19th century
