One of the finest examples of a Nantucket candle stand made by Herman Ellis (1777-1816).

Made from mahogany with a serpentine top and blocked corners, decoratively inlaid with centering compass and quarter fans out of Lace wood. The turned urn and donut column rest on finely shaped legs and snake feet.

This large 13″ oval swing basket was made on the South Shoal Lightship and has an oak swing handle and staves, brass ears, and maple bottom. The handle is signed “K.B. Welch Stoughton Mass”. It is in great overall condition with the desired dark brown patina.

Attributed to Andrew Jackson Sandsbury (1830-1902). Sandsbury put in 23 years aboard the South Shoal Lightship, nine of those years as a Captain.
